Colby is a 2021 Senior attending Galena High School and has chosen to attend the University of Missouri at Kansas City in the fall.
Colby loves playing golf and wanted to go to his local golf course: Indian Tree at Crane, Missouri which turned out to be the perfect location for his fall senior portrait session.
This course offered so many beautiful areas to photograph at. (Note: you will need to contact them for approval, but we'll get back to this later!) We started near the clubhouse and one of the first holes happened to have lots of trees with amazing fall colors in the background as well as a cliff with a stream below it. I like to schedule portrait sessions so the late afternoon sun gives off a nice warm glow!
We moved on to another hole and it provided a very wide scenic backdrop, it was a little dark where we decided to shoot from so I popped up a light stand and added a light with a large umbrella for some fill light...cue golf course security who stopped by to see what we were doing on the green.
We did have some tense moments of grilling to see why we were there and what we were doing but we finally convinced him we did ask permission and he allowed us to finish, though we did make a faux pas by placing Colby's golf bag on the green surface. (Sorry Colby!) Once we moved the bag and our assured security we would do no harm he left us in peace to finish Colby's session.
As we were loosing light quickly we drove back on to the Galena square in front of The Bean Counter which is a super cool idea for a coffee house!
The Bank of Galena was left intact when it closed and was refurbished into a modern coffee house. You can still see the gold lettering on the front window in some of Colby's portraits out front and the bank teller windows are still there for you to order at and even has the old safe!
We got some really great shots up there at the square and had a great time hanging out with Colby's mom Lisa and sister Baylee and when we lost all of the light we could shoot with it was time to leave. About the time I got home I started thinking about my camera bag and realized that I hadn't loaded it into my car when I left. I think you'll understand my panic as I tried to remember where I may have left it! I placed a couple of calls to the local police who are actually located on the square but I got no answer. Then I tried a friend that lives just off the square but unfortunately they didn't answer either! I called Colby's mom Lisa to see if maybe she lived close...no dice....soooooo, I hustled back to the square as quickly and safely as I could. I prayed the whole time...I'm forgetful but have never left that anywhere before. My panic was awful and my heart was beating through my chest! I finally pull up to the corner where we'd shot last...I didn't see the bag. I tried not to let my hopelessness get the best of me, I tried to really take things in and make sure I was looking everywhere it could be. Finally I saw my bag laying on the sidewalk. I can't imagine loosing that! I get so involved in shooting the images and working with you that I sometimes loose track of where I leave things while I'm shooting. Not a bad thing for you but a little stressful for me if I forget!
But enough about my panic! I love getting to know my seniors because it helps me show your personality and interests easier.
